Kalpesh K. Avasia is a seasoned banking leader with a career in
the Indian financial services industry spanning four decades. He
is a Commerce graduate from Goenka College of Commerce &
Business Administration, Kolkata, and is an Associate member of
the Indian Institute of Bankers (now IIBF). Mr Avasia joined
State Bank of Saurashtra (SBS) as a Probationary Officer in May
1988, and over time progressed through a variety of roles
covering retail banking operations, information technology,
international loan syndication, rupee treasury, corporate
credit, and overseas assignments (including postings in Oman and
the UK). He was a key member of the team which planned and
executed the merger of all 7 associate banks of SBI with the
parent bank, as also the merger of Bhartiya Mahila Bank and
SBICI Bank with SBI. He was also tasked with setting up the
retail banking subsidiary of SBI in the UK, in which he served
as Executive Director & COO from May 2018 to December 2020.
Subsequently he was posted as Special Secretary to Chairman of
State Bank of India, a position he occupied from December 2020
to July 2022. In July 2022, he assumed charge as Chief General
Manager of SBI’s New Delhi Circle, overseeing the bank’s largest
(in terms of business levels) Local Head Office with more than
1600 branches/offices and an employee strength of 15000 plus.
After an immensely satisfying career in banking, Mr Avasia
retired from the services of SBI, on superannuation, in October
2024.
